Wah Solos
I bought myself a Dunlop Crybaby 535 today, and I need some solos so I can hear how to use a wah better than the (duh!) "rocking foot to rythym" syndrome. And so I can work on some cool wah solos. Any help would be awesome.

Dunlop actually made a book a while back called "The Wah Book", it has some transcribed wah solos and also some cool licks with a wah. You might want to check that out.

Check out some Hendrix stuff, or Slash. Sweet Child o Mine is a pretty good example wah in a solo.

Try "Rosalie" from Thin Lizzy's Live and Dangerous,it's very easy.After that try some of the other solos that Brian Roberston does on this cd.

the intro to Voodoo Chile (slight return) is the best wah showoff ever...

Listen to players like Slash, Hammett (especially on Black Album) and Petrucci on Awake album. Also listen to some funk music. They are masters.

I think Tom Morello, of Rage Against the Machine, or Dimebag Daryl of Pantera are probably 2 of the best modern rock, or in Dimebag's case metal wah users. His artificial harmonics are driven by his Signature Whammy Pedal and even more importantly his Dime Cry Baby from Hell.

The best wah solo you can ever find is in the middle (about 3 1/2 min into song) of the song "In Cold Blood" by Malevolent Creation. It's a two guitar ultra melodic brutal breakdown with wah on both lead parts. Awesome to say the least. Best wah solo I've ever heard.

I like to use the wah wah peddle to change tone....the sorta thing i'm talking about Page did it on the Whole Lotta love solo.....you dont always have to keep moving it...sometimes its good to set it to a position and leave it there for a while Another good song for that is Rush's live version of By-Tor and the snow dog....i think its on disk 3 of Different Stages, there are some good effects there. Also try 'Dirty Women' by Black Sabath.....one of my persnal favourite wah-solo's (actually there's 2 solos, i'm on about the second one) And of course Hendrix.....get the woodstock stuff.

Did you know that the wah pedals were created to imitate the sound of the sitar (waving back and forth Reeeeeeeeeal slow!!) isn't it ironic, how your creation might not serve its purpose?

I still love using the whammy bar for that surf thing. Slight vibrato, but enough to make it go slightly wierd. I never really do dive bombs.

You guys are gonna think im weird or something. Im a huge Hendrix fan, his wah kicks ass, and when I was into metal years ago, I remember Hammetts wah to be astounding also. But you know the one wah solo that stands out in my brain??? Its the solo off of "what I am" by Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians. Anyone know the one? Not a technically hard solo, but the melody just grabs me. Weird huh?

godsmack are stupid moronic sad excuses for musicians. Their music is prefabricated watered down nu-metal and I could teach my little 9 year old brother to play that solo exactly how it sounds on the cd.

ok, the Edie Brickell song that somebody asked about is called "What I Am". It's not a bad solo. There are a few other solos you can look at for what to do with a wah pedal."Enter Sandman" by Kirk is great,all he's doing is using some old Brian Robertson licks from Thin Lizzy."Say What " from SRV is cool,Jeff Beck's version of " I Ain't Superstious" is pretty good.But the main thing as somebody posted earlier here is this, use your ears and have fun using your wah and don't go totally overboard otherwise you'll get bored pretty quick with it.
