Where to begin?
I am going to upgrade my membership tomorrow. I consider myself an advanced beginner. I can rotate through the"cowboy chords" comfortably, can play simple songs, like CCR, most punk, Nirvana easy stuff. Should I begin with the Core lessons, or something else? I hope to gain proficiency to play in church. My main love in musuc is jazz. Thanks! I have a Framus Stellara guitar, a hollow body electric, no amp yet.

I'd recommend starting at the core lessons. I found some of the coolest stuff in the most basic lessons, and learning some theory makes a world of difference trying to understand what I'm doing and in communicating with other musicians. I find it difficult to get ideas back and forth with someone who has no background at all. I'm currently revisiting a lot of stuff with a new appreciation!
I'd say you don't need to get yourself "mired in it", but with some basic understanding, I was able to start applying and gradually learning more as it made more sense combined actually learning more tunes. Good luck!
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

I agree with Razbo. I'm an intermediate player and I started at the beginning of the core lessons. Even though I breezed through the first parts of it, I picked up some things here and there that were very useful. It was time well spent.
You'll eventually hit a place where it becomes challenging...and then you dig in and go from there.
At the same time, find some songs that interest you that are at your level or jsut above to work on.
Have fun!

Great advice guys. I'd recommend starting with the Core Learning System as well. It gives you a fantastic foundation on which to start building your skills. Once you're done with that, you'll have many of the fundamentals down pat.
