This is why I'm here now, hoping I can get somewhere :)
Struggling guitarist here
Been playing on and off for about a year.. 6 months ago i went through a breakup and had a hard time with it(together for 11 years with 2 kids)so i decided to take the extra free time and i devoted myself to practice atleast 2 hours a day since guitar seems to make me happy.. I learned all the basic chords and switching between them and some scales .. Little bit of theory.. I just don't know how to advance with all this
This is why I'm here now, hoping I can get somewhere :)

Hi...and welcome!
Sorry to hear of your circumstances, but glad you can find some comfort in guitar. It's good to have a constructive outlet.
I'm new here myself, but my situation is similar to yours. I took lessons years ago and could play, but I wanted to step my playing up a few notches and learn some more songs.
What I did was I started with the core learning lessons. They consist of fundamentals I and II and then you can branch off into country, rock, or blues. I started at the complete beginning. Since I already new some stuff, I breezed through much in the very beginning, but picked up a thing or two here and there. It was good review. I then embarked on the blues branch which is where I'm now working.
So I would suggest going to the core lessons and start from the very beginning. You'll likely blow through the first part, but it will be good review and it will give you some confidence. Eventually you will hit a point where it is not so easy...and you go from there.
At the same time, browse the song library to see if there are songs you are interested in that may be at your current level. Personally, I like to learn songs and technique at the same time.
Best of luck! Have fun!

Welcome Michael!
That's some good advice from maggior, and I'm sure you'll find that progressing to new levels during the learning process will give you a huge morale boost.
Enjoy!

Hi Michael,
Good to see you here. Music is a great outlet for any life-changing event, it's helped me through many rough times.

Hi Michael
Welcome. I know what you've been going through mate, similar situation , 2 kids, was married 13 yrs.
Look on the bright side. Probably the best thing that could ever have happened for your guitar playing. Certainly was the case with me. I can spend endless peaceful nights on my instruments , can jam with mates and no more threats from the ex to cut my strings. (she tried once on the Low E but didn't realise they were steel and broke her scissors :) )
I run a business and have to look after my kids on my own most of the time so pressed for practice time. I find If you can put in consistent time , 30 mins a day rather than just a few hours session on a weekend day , you'll make rapid progress.
I would start with the core lessons but maybe also add in a simple song or two of your favourites to keep the interest. I find that in the early stages , particularly with some of the younger kids I've worked with, they just want to play songs, quick. I was the same when I started.
When you get to the songs, the instruction is top quality. I had a look through today and the detail and information is amazing. Never in 19 years have I learned a song from an instructor (face to face) and been given so much info re the baseline, techniques used, chord makeup , even comments like where the snare fits in, as I experienced with the lessons today. These guys are real pro's and have put in tremendous effort to produce these lessons. Great site and no doubt you're going to benefit hugely from the content.
Hang in there, keep on practicing , and a well played rendition of "nothing else matters " will certainly help with your next girlfriend.

Phils1, your ex tried to cut your strings ...??? my god... well OK I will not comment on that. Luckily I am more happy, my wife sings and right now our 18 years old son is rehearsing some Nirvana-songs with his mates in our basement (while I am trying to figure out some chords in a song that my band will play during our next weekend gigs).
