I always want to know if someone plays a guitar solo exactly as it is..As it sounds from the cd!How do you play it..?Do you perform it as it is?Or you also add licks of yours? Also when you have the original tablature of a solo...Do you still add licks of yours?...IF YOU ADD...DO YOU?

When I try to learn a solo I play it exactly as the performer. Or I try to. When I know how it goes and I when I can play it in the right tempo I throw in a couple of my own licks. If I play the song with my band when we are training I play the original solo, but if we are performing I try to keep the same style in the solo as the original guitarist but I may add a couple of licks here and there trying to make the solo "sound like me".

Fretslug was right on. Trouble with me is I always get parts that end up sounding like me and nothing like the original. Been working on 2 instrumentals by Santana. Europa and Samba pa ti. I can get the better part of it note for note but to make it sound like Carlos is another story altogether. And, damn, would I like to get that one note in Europa to feed back forever like he does.
If you have never heard these two songs, you really should give them a listen.

For me, it depends what kind of solo I´m learning. If it´s a slower emotional solo than I learn it how it is but if it´s a fast solo like Malmsteen our so than I throw a lot of my own stuff because I find it impossible to figure out all tones when the solo is like speed of light and my theory is, as long it sounds fast as orginal and a bit close, it´s ok. But as I said earlier, learning slower solos and famous solos like Stairway, Final Countdown, Guns, Metallica... than it´s important to learn it as close as possible.

But if you just listen to Yngwies solos, honestly, can you somtimes hear the diference betwen solos in diferent song? Especially faster parts.

I have never been able to play a solo like it is on the CD, never, ever, even if I tried for months, 8 hours a day, never... And you know what, I don't give a flying crap about it!! :D

Lalimacefolle.. You are suck. :D

Nah.. Just kidding..

I ment that if you want to make a "better" solo to a song it helps you a lot if you know how the original performer did it, you don't have to know the exact notes but try to play it as the guitarist did. Damnit.. I keep repeating myself..I keep repeating myself...

I've found learning some solos by ear all the way through, I've come across tab that was the proper way to play it, and I had the right notes, but sometimes I was playing in a different position of the neck or something like that. Sometimes it's indistinguishable one way or the other, but sometimes it's gotta be played how they did it.

No, I never learn lead breaks - I use my Cd collection as backing tracks to develop my own licks and expressions for future recording projects
