When I try to learn a solo I play it exactly as the performer. Or I try to. When I know how it goes and I when I can play it in the right tempo I throw in a couple of my own licks. If I play the song with my band when we are training I play the original solo, but if we are performing I try to keep the same style in the solo as the original guitarist but I may add a couple of licks here and there trying to make the solo "sound like me".
