I have an Ibanez RG 1570. The pickup selector switch is not working in the 1st position. The one that selects the neck pickups. All of the 4 other positions seems to be working. I would like to try to fix myself. Any suggestions and instruction?

You may just need to steel wool the contact...easier said than done.

The RG1570 is an HSH pick-up set up, right? Does the 4th toggle position (Neck and Middle pick-up selected) work? Meaning that your getting that H and S mixed sound. Just want to be sure it is not the neck pick-up itself.

Hi Chris..
Jeff has you on the right track.. Just listen close as you switch positions
A dirty switch usually give a popping or snapping sound when moving.
A broken switch tends to feel lose, or not flipping into position, sort of a catch or drag feeling.
A broken wire (not likely unless circuitry has been worked on) or a bad solder joint that

Here a fist full of wiring diagrams. Take your pick..

problems could be
dirty contacts
broke switch parts
broke wire
bad pick-up

an Ohm Meter maybe required to prove defective area.

Just my two cent worth..
good luck

Generally, a switch contact will be scratchy but not completely quit working. Usually when the output is ZERO, it's becuase there is no contact to the source. You can probably download a schematic of how the wiring is suppose to be on your guitar and you can open up the guitar and have a peek.... Make sure there are no loose wires and make sure everything is securely soldered. Might just need to resolder the lead going to the switch.
