dear guitar tricks

i like what you guys are doing with coordinating internet guitar instruction searches. i have been using the internet to search for guitar instruction material for over 25 years

for me it is extremely objectionable that suddenly when i search for specific tabs on 911 tabs and other traditional tab sites i involuntarily get your stupid and loud ad

as a longtime democratic-anarchistic web user i am begging you to do the following:

-fire your webmaster, get rid of your popups, and get back to what you do best: networking hi.quality guitar instruction for free or for a reasonable price.

all the best, mike horowitz

(whew, i'm glad i got that off my chest! now i can go back to reading some charles bukowsky and go to bed)

Wow, that is strange..
I just surfed 3 songs in 911 and did not see a single Ad for GuitarTricks. Maybe it's the browser or search engine you use..
Just a guess..

Always eager for more windmills, I just now tried five searches myself. Found there were usually three ads with each returned search; most of them animated, all of them silent, and none of them for Guitar Tricks.

Maybe the timing (early Sunday morning) wasn't right for the GT demographic? ;) But then, that doesn't explain the ad for New York Texas Toast croutons...

Beyond timing, maybe individual computer settings are a determinant for how ads play. That certainly comes into play on the Weather Channel site.

...on the other hand,

When surfing the net I find little that is more disruptive or aggrvating than video ads that start up automatically when I open a site's page. It hits me particularly hard 'cause during my morning surfing I usually have many tabs open at the same time and it takes a while to go back through 'em to find the offender.

I'm not alone in this aggravation. Some weeks ago the Weather Channel started an automatic run of (primarily) news videos. They were loud, unwanted and PO'd a lot of people. So many, in fact, that in discussion posts the WC apologized and told folks how to turn the vids off.

These kind of 'intrusions' hardly engender good will and I can't imagine they bring in many new customers. GT may be well advised to temper such ad use or forgo it all together.

I use Firefox and the AdblockPlus add-on. I think there is one for Chrome as well. I never see ads on websites. Very, very few anyway.
Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.
