It's my birthday and i got a loada money so i thought why not buy an electric guitar! I know most chords anyway, but then tabs are different! I understand how tabs work and what to do, but it takes me ages to work out each one, i can't just play fluently! I know it will come through time but can anyone recommend a way to practice tabs so you can play any music easily>? Also i have a few more questions:

How do you make a guitar screech?!

Oh yeah i forgot when you play tabs is it better to use fingers or not?-ellie

Yamaha make nice electrics. I still find Tabs a pain in the rear after 12+ years of "doing" them, get someone to show you the riff if possible.Break down bigger riffs into smaller 2/3 note sections then string em together again,

slow down as well - this helps.

You can use advanced playing techniques to make a guitar screech or get feedback by getting to close to the amp (and many other ways- such as effects pedals/boxes).

Accuracy,you say? hmm interesting concept..

Dunno if ya wanna class this as a screech, but I turn up the distortion to max, stand in front of my amp n do a nice long pick scrape, it gives off one hell of a noise. I just stand there for hours just doin this.

I recently did alot of research on electrics so I could get started. Depending on your level of cash and experience you may wanna differ from what I did but I finally settled on a Squier Strat Affinity. Plays realy nice but not being experienced I can't really be a great judge. Working great for me right now. The only problem I have is large hands and long fingers. The neck is slim on this thing and I cramp alot. I'm praying eventually this will stop as my hand gets more used to the positions.

I'm also finding Tabs confusing when it comes to taps, pulls, bends and hammers. I can't really do any of that yet so I'm sticking with the scales and modes tabs that are simpler to play and try to train my fingers to move more fluidly and my picking to become more consistent. I figure once I do that I'll be able to move more easily into Tabs for specific songs.

BTW...Glad I'm not Slashers neighbor :p

I do live in a terrace house so I only got a wall seperating me from my neighbours. And oddly enough they've not complained once. They must like it, or they're deaf. But I like the first one better. As for the cramp thing, yeah that should pass as you get more used to it. If it doesnt I would contemplate getting a Les Paul, as the neck is wider. A second hand Epiphone shouldnt cost too much, plus they sound really cool, I live by 'em. I also say this thing in a mag where you put all five fingers together at the tips and put an elastic band round 'em and open your fingers, it helps you develop ur finger muscles, so that might help with the cramp.
