Hello, everyone!

Just like the title says, I'm new to guitar and as of about 30 min ago I am a full access member to this site. I ordered a guitar which came in Wednesday and I'm ready to get started. I am now the proud owner of a Seagull S6 original. With my full access membership I also received the free "Chord Theory Magic" program. I have absolutely no experience playing guitar. I'm a complete newbie! My question is where do I begin? Whats the best way to learn? I do understand that practice is the best place to learn but I was hoping for a little more advice than something that vague. Do I simple go to the beginner tutorial and just practice that over and over? Do I learn notes first or chords first? It all just seems a bit overwhelming.

Thanks!

Listen to/watch the video by Lisa, read the rest of the url's page and then get started on the fun, extremely effective Guitar Fundamentals course.

The course flow should keep any beginner happy...

Thanks, John. That's where I though I should begin, but at the same time with so many resources here I wasn't sure. After seeing/reading the section on how to practice, I didn't know if I was suppose to do both at same time, going back and forth or if I should master the the beginners course first. I think I will just take it one course at a time, trying to really perfect my technique and thoroughly learn each course before moving on to the next.

Seagulls are pretty nice and nicely priced to. Always good to start on something you would want to play.

Just a small piece of advice as you start learning stuff:
Remember that no matter how good you get, you will never feel you are good enough.

Thought I'd mention that, like yesterday, I was noodling on my acoustic and lamenting how rotten I thought my playing was. My wife looked at me this that 'you're on crack' look and said, 'Some never even get nearly that good no matter how hard they try'. Not that I am all that and a bag of Dunlop picks but she made a point. Guitarists that get better are never satisfied.

That's the point, that's ok...learn to make that part of the fun. It's challenging but when you sit down and can bang out something that sounds good, it's a great reward.

Enjoy and remember that even if you can't play it today, with practice, you probably will tomorrow.
