if there is any person/guitarist listening i'm asking the perverbial question,to become what you would consider proficient at guitar what length of time was involved? asking for the shear curiosity! thanks to all

It often takes about 6 months before others enjoy listening to new players.

It's different for everybody. Depends how long you practice too. There is no real answer to this question.

Like hunter said. It depends on how much you practice and also what's your music background. I don't mean that as playing instruments but as how much music have you listened too in your life. Usually that will make people learn faster since there's already a good chunk of melody, rhythm and feel in the memory. Like Anders said in one of his videos, if you want to be a good blues player, you have to listen to a lot of blues. That and a lot of practice on top :)
