Funk Rock Song Idea

I'd like to introduce to you "funk" rock song idea, I recorded in collaboration with some bassist some time ago. There's no vocal, but I hope you'll like it.

Sounds cool. Really liking the drums. Is that an actual person, or did you use a program?

Would have liked to hear the bass a little more. Mostly just hear drums and guitar. Can't get funky without a funky bass :cool:

Thanks :) The drums were composed in a program (Addictive Drums). As for the bass I know, for me there's too much and not enough bass in the same time, because when I listen to it on speakers and AKG K-99 headphones it seems to be ok, but still it's not so selective as I'd like it to be, and when I listen to it on my mp3 player using earphones, it seems like there's too much bass, but obviously it doesn't make it any more selective :) I'm not professional sound engineer, so... :)

Ya it's hard to balance the low frequencies of a bass. You don't want just low noise bleeding through the entire time, but you want to be able to hear the individual notes. At the same time, not raising the bass of the overall track because that would bring the drums bass up too.

I believe the whole problem lays in equalization of all tracks I've got in the song, I suppose there's too much low frequencies on other tracks and that's why I can't bring the bass up, but when I cut them it seems like it don't have enough of them. It's hard to balance frequencies, especially without good monitors and when you are amateur.

EQ...Think subtractively. What frequency must go on a guitar or bass drum track to allow the bass guitar to 'breath' through. We, I think, hear a great drum sound from a fave artist and want all of our bass drums to sound like that....that kind of thing. Your mix is its own deal so you have to look not at what you're sacrificing when doing subtractive EQ but what maximizes the overall affect of the track.
