Does anyone know how to video record two seperate guitar parts to the same song and combine them so that when you play it back it shows both guitars playing different parts to the same song for example the rythym and the lead part together like they do in some of the Guitar Tricks video lessons?

Not really sure what you are asking specifically for. You obviously have to record the two guitar parts separately with a camera.

Are you wondering what program to use? Any video editing program will do. I think Microsoft has a free program. Movie Maker, or something. Just google "frfree microsoft video editing software".

Yes, you layer the two video clips on top of each other, and you need editing software that allows you to mask out (cut away) half of the top video layer, so that the bottom video shows through.

I'm sure there are plenty of free apps that will let you do this. Commercial apps that can do this well are, for example:

Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas for Windows.
Final Cut Pro X, or Adobe Premiere for Mac. I think even iMovie can do it, but I'm not sure.

Hi,

If you are using Mac or Linux there is avery good free program called Kdenlive that can do just about everything that the programs Ben mentions.

It can be a little trycky to get started but a lot of fun when it works. There is tons of tutorials on Youtube to get you started.

Hej Ben by the way kul med lite svensk flavor on the site. I am learning a lot from you and all the others so a big thanks for all the tutorials.

I had never heard of Kdenlive before, will have to check it out when I'm back in the studio. Thanks for the tip!

Also, great with another Swede here on the site Lars. Lycka till!

Hey!

It's actually very simple, I did a video like that for a cover where I had to play 2 guitars...

1. You record and film the first guitar
2. You record and film the second
3. Once you have recorded and filmed both guitars, go to iMovie
if you have a Macbook (but if you don't, you can download any other video edit. program.)
4. Now, you open iMovie: Go to Preferences, General, and Klick on the "Advanced Tools" button.
5. After that it's easy: you have to import the first guitar video. Then, you import the second, and you drag it in the 1st video.
6. A box appears on the left side of the videoclip: Click "Side by Side"

That's it :)

Hope it helped...

I have a good way. You can use Joyoshare VidiKit. It is a toolkit. You can use its screen recorder to record your guitar parts in sucession and then use its editing features to cut unnecessary parts, or you can use the screen recorder to record sound separately, and then use its built-in video joiner to merge two audio files so that they can appear as a complete song.

In Ableton options there is a button to allow you to record arm more than one track at once you will need that too.

Kdenlive is a great free program that will do about everything the commercial ones do. In my search for a video editing software program it is the one I landed on.

There is a new kid on the block that really looks great called Olive. I am not saying it is better or Kdenlive is better. I'm just saying if the OP is looking both are candidates to consider.
