Hey all,

I am a relatively new acoustic player and I am learning the Spanish Romance piece for the first time. There is a section that requires barring the entire 7th fret. I am having trouble getting sound out of all the strings. I wonder if using one of the finger slides would solve the problem. My fingers might not be boney enough. Help!

slides produce a distinctive tone depending on the the material the slide is made of... also, it wouldn't be practical to use a slide for one particular part of a song as small as a few bars. now, what i'm about to suggest is classical blasphemy... but blues musicians (and myself) do it often to compensate for this issue...

i'm not familiar with the piece you're learning but i can assume that if the song is in standard tuning that you're not sounding all strings barred on the 7th fret... i imagine you're playing some type of chord rooted at the 7th fret that requires barring.... so, what i would do in that case is use my thumb to fret the 7th fret on the E string and my index finger to barre the remainding strings that need to be barred... and add the other notes in with your middle, index, and pinky..... of course, not knowing the exact chord that you're playing - this may not be the exact case but it's a start.

Hello, just as an update, I finally mastered the barre on the 7th fret to play Romanza by rolling my index finger to the left barring with the side of the finger. It works every time. Thanks again!
