Actually, it's much easier to play in any key than you might think. As soon as you can play an A Major barre chord, you can literally play any other barre chord on the fretboard. Just move the chord up or down any number of frets.

You'll then have to learn the chords that are actually in the A major key. There are only seven chords. But just like before, all of these chords move just like the A major chord.

So in order to play in every key, you just need to remember the pattern, which consists of 7 chords. Move that pattern up and down and you're playing in every key.

Here are the seven chords (but in C Major):

C Major
D Minor
E Minor
F Major
G Major
A Minor
B Diminished

Now, just learn those barre chords. Again, all you have to do to play in C# Major is move ALL of the chords up one half step. To play in A Major, just move them all down 3 half steps.

Confused yet? ;) If you are, I can make explain better or in a different way so you can understand.

I know it feels great to hear it for the first time without a buzz or thump. Hang in there brother, I'm right there with you. After being jammed with the F Major for over a week, I had a little work done to my guitar that made the F Major sound off for the first time for me. Still have problems with just playing it, have to look to get fingers right. I had some better strings put on my guitar and the bridge lowered. Really turn the guitar on, Cost 26 dollars. Well worth it, just ask any of my family. My wife was going to call a Pries perform and exorcism on me and the guitar.

Congrats to you !!!
I've been playing for many years and have to tell you that the barre/power chord was one of the hardest chords I had to learn hands down!! The upside to learning this chord is that it opens up a whole new door to playing. Do you have any idea how many chords you can play using a power chord?

In time with a lot of practices you'll find that your fingers will automatically fall to the right position, just as with most other chords.

Practices going from an open chord to a barre chord back and forth slowly, and you'll find that you will slowly speed up as time goes on.

I know for me, it was a huge turning point in my guitar playing and after learning it I felt like I had just won the lotto.
Before you know it, you'll be sliding all over the neck wackin out tons of new chords and sounds !!

Again congrats, and keep us posted on your progress.
