Hello out there!

Not only am I learning how to play a musical instrument for the first time, but this is also my first time learning how to use a forum.
I have only been playing guitar (acoustic) a few weeks and I love it! I'm so glad I joined Guitar Tricks - it's an awesome site.
The reason I went into the forum is because I am at the end of the fundamentals 1 and up till now I have been learning individual notes. I wandered into Lisa McCormick's area to learn some finger picking and chords and that is where I discovered a problem. I have long fingers and so assumed I would have no problem playing piano or guitar. I just cant get my fingers in the right place; I mean, there's just no way they will do it.
Thank you to Cal and Tom for their suggestions. I will take it one finger at a time and just hope that time and practice will make it happen.
It just feels impossible right now.
