Simple question, aNyone listening to intresting Non-guitar based stuff at the mo? (does anyone else get bored of listening to guitar based stuff? I know i'm a guitarist, and such words are blasphamy... but there's a whole world out there to explore... I mean there's gotta be more than Rock/ Blues/ Folk/ Classical? right?)

Ok... I'll go first
1) Cornelius: Started listening to them again... I remember when i had my job place ment back in the summer of 98 (i feel sooo old), they put out this odd sounding song, which was guitar based, it was kinda like the beatles, but with modern influences... and an odd sense of timming...
They're new stuff is far more experimental... very cool... songs like "drop" are kinda what i'm listening to, but it's very dificult to describe
2) Capitol K: I heard this very buitiful quircky sounding song called "pillow", with really high pitched vocals, and tabla, and some ethnic sounds, with electronica, very impressed at how it all fitted together... I heard a few of the album being played live by the guy... it sounded very very odd and crap, like he was improvising really really badly, which was a shame...
3) Notwist: I'm still gettting more from this group, "pick up your phone" was very cool...

(i have a creeping suspicion that no one will answer)
Post about anything non-guitar based (It can have guitar in it, but it's not so central and prominant)

Morphine
Jaco Pastorius
Ben Folds Five
Buckethead - oddly enough Somewhere Over the Slaughterhouse has very little guitar content. What there is for guitar playing is very tricky to pick out.

INdian Techo? *both shocked and amused*... cool..
I quite like american folk music.. it's got some element of honesty in it, that can be quite touching..
as for garage... What kinda stuff you listen to? Artful dodger? So-solid crew ?... I cant say i'm a big fan, but to be fair, I only know what's on the charts...
nearly pissed my self laughing earlier, when i heard about DJ Spoony's night at some top New York club (.. heheh.. just anything british over there comes with a liscence to print money.. lol... we f-ing extradite these crap djs, and what happens some dumb shmuk with more money than sense pays to see them... heheheh))

I am thanksful that SUVs haven't really come to Australia. Aus has plenty of wealthy people, but not nearly like that; not enough children of the mega rich fortunately. Plenty of posers though. I listen to some techno stuff, generally incredibly mainstream - chemical brothers, fatboy slim - so much that if I were into the techno crowd I might be a bit embarrassed. I listen to quite a bit of DJ Shadow as well, which is awesome drum techno, if that makes sense. And heaps of jazz - I rarely listen to jazz guitar but I can't get enough of Miles, Coltrane, Bird, Sonny Rollins, Keith Jarrett, etc. Also loads of classical music, lots of Bach, Ravel, Stravinsky, Rachmaninov, faure.

I love listening to tenor sax players, they play some of the coolest stuff. It must have something to do with the tone of the instrument, because a tenor saxophonist can play a chromatic scale and make it sound hip!
Some of my favorites;
Michael Brecker, Bob Berg, and Chris Potter

3) 'Unplugged' Alanis Morrissette
4) Anything by John WILLIAMS (music scores rock)
5) ALLAN HOLDSWORTH (I don't think it still can be called guitar)

Pony, I'd love you to email me any pieces of indian techno, it sounds interesting. However, due to college network issues, if you choose to email me an mp3, could you leave of the .mp3 at the end, otherwise I won't recieve it. My email is in my profile. Part of the reason why I rarely listen to jazz guitar is because I think that the sax sounds better as an instrument to solo with. I'm listening to Sonny Rollins right now, who has a fantastic tone; the kind that I'd love to be able to get with a guitar.

I listen to alot of Celtic music anyway - not moreso than ever before.

Ive listened to classical music all my life but Ive never had a special interest. Just picked up stuff here and there.

I listen to piano songs like Elton John, Marc Cohn etc.

Right now I'm listeing to some songs from Star Wars Episode II. I just found out about them so I haven't listened to theme all yet. Just part of the Across the Stars song. Man, I hope this movie isn't going to suck like Episode I did. If you want to listen to those songs here's a link:

http://www.episode1-3.de/rumors13.html

You'll see the names of the songs and the download links below them. Not all of the links work, though.

And apparantly they took the songs down. Well, the one song that I listened to 1 min 40 sec was pretty good. I wanted to hear the finale song b/c I heard a lot about that. If anyone knows where I can download those songs please tell me. I've checked Audiogalaxy and they aren't there.

I dnno how expessive this is,but try and figure it.
Imagine:
African grassland, kinda semiarid area(I wasn very good in this vegetation thing in geography class).Like 3-4 pm.Sun about40-45 degrees in the western sky.Pretty hot too.Farmers have left their farms.Kids in school for the afternoon(we dont leave school at three). All cows have been fed and stuff,so they're not mooing.People have eaten and are relaxing. It's basically very quiet.Acouple of birds singing.A breeze kicks in from the east, and the whispering thorn trees get to work.Wail,actually.And I'm lying under a tree, eyes closed, just taking it all in.It's the best non guitar thing I've ever listened to.And if you're near a small stream, big enough you hear the water flow, but just so big it doesn't intrude, and there's a crowd of insectsnearby making this low drooning sound,it's just heaven. For me.
I also like vivaldi.
And btw,did you know Tchaikovsky was gay?
