I've had fairly equal experience with both acoustic and electric 6-string guitars. However, i've always loved the full sound that a 12-string acoustic produces and have been wanting to play one for quite a bit now.
How hard are they to play compared to a standard 6-string? Do i have to change/adapt my technique/style to play one or can i just pick it up and play it?
I've never owned one, but I have noodled with them throughout the years. It is a tad different, but manageable. For me, it is a different feel for the right hand (picking) more so than the left hand (fingering). For me it only takes a few minutes to get acclimated.
