Leslie west mountain : Theme from an Imaginary Western. Most guitar solos seem to be bad or poorly written , but here are a few gems .Cheers.

Holy ****! I could ban myself for what I wanna say about this!

Amos Garrett, and his band, The Eh Team, are based here in Calgary.

Only 5? hmm... gotta spend some time thinning out the candidates...

5 amazing solos from songs as opposed to instrumentals:

Hangar 18 - Megadeth - Marty Friedman/Dave Mustain
Defensive Personalities - Death - James Murphy/Chiuck Schuldiner
Shy Boy - Dave Lee Roth - Steve Vai
Dark Night - The Scorpions - Uli Jon Roth (from the 70's)
New Order - Testament - Alex Skolnick

If you're into death metal and shred, Nocturnus 'Thresholds' album beats any of the above on every single track. Didn't mention them above as most people have never heard their stuff...shame!

Hell yeah! Plus almost everything on Rust In Peace and Megadeth's other albums - even Risk has some great solos. Yes, Megadeth is one of my favourite bands... :p

Okay, here are five of mine:
Pink Floyd - "Time" (David Gilmour)
Gary Moore - "The Loner"
Mahavishnu Orchestra - "Meeting of the Spirits" (John McLaughlin)
King Crimson - "21st Century Schizoid Man" (Robert Fripp)
Queensryche - "Jet City Woman" (Chris deGarmo)
"It's all folk music... I ain't never heard no horse sing!"
- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Wow, this thread goes back a ways. Here's a few that come to mind for me:
*Pick any song off Eat a Peach album, Allman Bros.
*Red House-Jimi-"that's allright...I still got my guitar, look out baby!"...sweeeet
*Hotel California-Eagles-even non-players whistle and air guitar this one, a sure sign
*Crossfire-SRV-melodically and technically, one of his best
*Sultans of Swing-Dire Straits-he really might know "all the chords" :)

Ok, that's 5, but I gotta mention (even though it has been) Stranglehold-Ted Nugent...think it's his only song I like though.

Stakes are High and so am I, it's in the air Tonii-yia-yite. It's a "Free for All".
Another Nugent Classic, you might dig it.

Back in Black-Angus Young: Definitive rock guitar from whatever angle you approach it.

Hot For Teacher-EVH: Perfect representation of his style sans tapping. i.e. primarily a rhythmic guitar player with a sometimes-jazzy sense of timing.

Molto Arpeggiosa-Yngwie Malmsteen: Just check out that opening lick from Yngwie. Brilliant.

Splendido Sundance-Al Di Meola: I suppose not really rock, but still just an awesome piece for two guitars.

I don't want to hear about it later-EVH: Another really awesome solo (too bad the solo is in the middle of a mediocre song)
Back In Black isn't a song. It's a divine call that gets channeled through five righteous dudes every thousand years or so. That's why dragons and sea monsters don't exist anymore.
