sharp all my f's? i wanna learn the patterns to the 3 and 4 octave scale to where the shape of the pattern is a diagonal line going up the fret board
# 3
you should read the theory section. what i suggested
to you was to learn the G scale which is the E aeolian.
-0--2-3-----2-3-5----3-5-7-----5-7-8----7-8-10--------
-0--1-3------3--5----3-5-7-----5-7-8----7-8-10-------
-0--2-4-----2-4-5----4-5-7-----5-7-9----7-9-11------

-8-10-12- then ya can use the first pattern startin
-8-10-12- but start on the 12th fret.( ya know the
-9-11-12 12th is the same as open right ? )

so if im playin in (my favorite) A aeolian (same as C ionian right) and i use your grid to start from the E string 5th fret (which is a)and end up on the high E 17th fret (a'') to make the 3rd octave then whats the pattern???
is a 4 finger pattern the best way to go?? or maybe 3 finger with 4 finger mixed up ever other string or just start on 5th fret end on high e 5th fret then move up the neck on the hi e sting only for the last octave?? which way is fastest for u

yeah well, dont get too excited til after you've
seen the bill. yer wantin to just walk up the
scale ?? or yer wantin some help learnin how to
jam with it ? the only way to get 4 complete octaves
is from the low E up to the 24th fret of high E.
one finger per fret is the easiest way to play most
o the meat o what yer doin til ya start gettin up
where its crowded, then yer pinky takes a break except
for reachin up outside the little 4 fret pattern into
the next pattern,combinin the bottom o the next pattern
with the one under it.and if i was just wantin to walk
up the scale id probably
---------------------------------------------------13-15-17-
---------------------------------------12-13-15~~17--
----------------------------------12-14---------
-------------------9~~10-12~~14-15-----------------------
---------7-8~~10-12----------------
-5-7-8~10-----------------------------
~~~19-20--------------then the same pattern ya started at
------------------ the 5th fret works at the 17th
i guess i wanna learn both, wanna be able to walk up but jam sick at the same time, is there a different pattern to that? by the way thanks man
# 7
jam sick ?? the patterns i just showed ya will work
with lots o stuff if yer tasteful but if thats all
ya play its gonna sound like yer stuck in one key.
ya need to do other stuff with it too.i guess some
guys might simply play different riffs within one
scale though.and ya probably oughtta read more o the
theory threads and perhaps that is the place where ya
shoulda placed this thread so other guys would have
a chance to help ya too doncha think? ya probably
could tell the gang the chord structure yer wantin
to work with and ya might get back lots o different ideas about how to jam with it :)
You could try this:
8---10--12--13--15--17
6---8---10
5---7---9
5---7---9
5---7---8
5---7---8
But don't limit yourself to "patterns". Learn ALL the notes / intervals in whatever scales you want to use on the fretboard and be creative ! River gave you sound advice - put it to good use.
i already know a good amount of theory like the 7 basic modes, pentatonic, chromatic, blues scale, phrygian #3, whole tone scale, i just wanted some advice what to do with it like how to haul ass and make it look cool by going all the way up the neck in a fast little phrase during a solo... u know like put the modes together real quick or somethin...all i gotta do is work on speed, i've only been double picking (updown strokes) for a couple months, i originally learned my theory playing piano and got the whole syncopation rhythm goin from drumming (my main instrument).......your info should help a bunch, thank you!
chill out man, no need to put someone down, what's the point? is it to make yourself look better? lack of self confidence? a way to build self esteem? that was rude man. im new and i know this forum is for guitarist who love to play and share in hopes to inspire...build off one another...share knowledge to help out...and have a good time with others who share the same interest...talk guitars not trash. thanks bro
if he is a musical idiot like you say then why dont you share with him and the rest of us what he needs to know in order to be as good as your are or as good as you say? share your knowledge and enlighten us...
# 13
I don't know if that post was really meant to be offensive, but GuitarBoy is right. This is supposed to be a place to share knowledge, and all that . . .
i meant his way of thinking, as far as learning music. if everybody judged every other musician by how he plays other people's music, no new music would be created.
Hmm.. you guys see why i sometimes cant be bothered asking 'dumb' questions? Who is Incidents happen'? is that a spelling mistake? accidents perhaps? When i finish my university lectures after a hard days work and realise theres a reply to a post i'm interested in its a bit disappointing to be laughed at. My musical knowledge may be limited, but IH's intelligence level also needs work.
Later dude!!
