Hi!

This is the first meassage on this forum. I heard some good stuff about this forum and the way people treat each other here...

I hope there is someone out here with a lot of experience with a good ear and can recognise these tones from listening to these sound clips. I know it's hard, but a try would really be appreciated! I am interesing in what kind of amp could produce tones like this with a Strat.

I am about to buy myself the best amp on this planet(that is my goal after saving money for a very long time) and with that amp I want to be able to get these kinds of solo tones.

My guitar: Fender Richie Sambora USA Stratocaster
Pedal: Ibanez Tubescreamer TS9DX
Amp: Will buy soon!

Facts about the sound clips:
Hold On recorded '94
90210 recorded '96

On the clip "Hold On" one of these guitarists played,I don't know who, probably Landau:
Michael Landau
Bob Mann
Dean Parks

Landau uses Bogners and Fender Super Reverbs.

On the clip "90210" one of these could have been playing:
Brian Tarquin
Larry Carlton

Please reply and we can discuss a little about these kind of tones. Personally I think there is either a tubescreamer or a really good amp producing these tones. I am pretty sure the 90210 clip is played with a Les Paul, a bigger guitar than a Strat, which would fit perfect to the fact that both Tarquin and Carlton use Les Paul sized guitars.
I think the tone is also pretty Fenderish, not so typical, but in a way it sounds a little Fenderish on the heat of the sound. I would guess that the 90210 song is played with a good Fender Twin Amp and a Gibson Les Paul guitar and maybe a Tubescreamer pedal. The Hold On clip on the other hand I think is played on a Strat.

Do you think a Diezel VH4 amp could produce these kind of tones? And have you heard similar sounding amps in you career? What amps do you think of when you hear these sound clips?

Yeah. Sorry that I said a Fender Twin Amp when I meant a Fender Twin Reverb Amp, forgot that leaving out the reverb in the end means a whole other amp...

Yeah I think it sounds like a good Fender twin reverb amp me too... And I think it is...(I'm sure they where very popular at early 90's...)

It's really cool!

If there was only one best amp on the planet, everyone would have one (that oculd afford it). Unfortuantely, once you start, you realise just how good each particular type of amp is, until you just gotta catch 'em all! Oh no... Pokemon, aaaaaahhhh!

I think some of the questions that have to be asked are not so much what amps these players used to get that tone although thats a good place to start, but what amp can you use to get that tone? They sound Fenderish to me but that means it could one of about 20-30 different amps, Larry Carlton for example is known to use Howard Dumbles, so that really reduce the choices alot, and also how will you be using the amp? 100watt amps are not well suited for midnite practice in the apt. The Diezel should be able to produce that kind of tone, it will take about every tube known to man, and it should for that price, and if you got that kind of cash, tone shouldn't be a problem, their are more great amps made today than their ever has been, Whats going to be practical for you? P.S. I wish I to make this kind of terible decision, you lucky dog!
