i thought about posting an introduction here as well but... in most guitar forums they have a seperate area just for introductions to keep the flow of regular open going.

ever considered it? i think its a great idea, especially for this place. also segregates new members to an area and allows it to be a lot easier for staff and instructors to reply with their obligatory welcome to our forum posts

just a thought =p

I've thought that before. Would help separate all the intro posts in the Open Discussion area. I use the Open Discussion more for music questions that don't have a specific forum, instead of just random chat about anything. Separating at least music from randomness would be hepful.

Sounds good. Where do you want it?

my vote would be for the publically viewable area. so prospective members can see how many new members the site is constantly getting =p

Don't with to hijack this thread but I also have an idea for a new forum topic. I recently posted in the open discussion topic forum that I had a guitar amp for sale...I got 136 views in one week...Neil also posted a copy of the thread in the gear discussion forum for me...that's had 123 views so far..that's nearly 260 views...!!! I'm in the uk and haven't had any replies but I guess all the members are spread all around the world so I'm not surprised. Have the amp up on evilbay with loads of interest so it matters not anyway.

I am just thinking that with that many views for my threads there could be a huge demand for a part of the forum where you could advertise your gear for free. This could also be a great selling point for GT for bringing in new members to the site. A place to buy and sell from other guitarists...I'm sure not everyone wants to use evilbay...!!!!

Well, I can second the motion. That'll be nice for Guitar Tricks to do. But this will really depend upon their rules and regulations. Hanging out here is really nice even if you are not a premium member, I still am able to learn a lot. We will just wait for the advice of the admin or the moderators. :)
At my blog I write about guitar playing and other related topics. Tune in to get some advice on how to learn guitar chords and more.

We have tried that previously and it failed for the reasons you mention (people are too spread out all over the world). It's a great idea, but unfortunately there aren't quite enough people here to make it work well.
