Hi,

I noticed that many of the lessons show 3 note per string scales as the first position for both major and minor scales, but is not reflected like this on the Scale Finder provided. Am I missing something? I"m a bit confused.

Thanks,

Steve

It is confusing. :)

On the guitar you can play the exact same note in more than one place. This results in many possible patterns & ways to play any given scale. The Scale Finder is a great tool. But it's just an automated graphic database that shows some of possible ways to play scales. It's just a reference, so it doesn't explain why it shows any given pattern.

I explain those reasons in depth in GF2 starting here:

http://www.guitartricks.com/tutorial.php?input=363

Then, I cover the idea in more depth in these tutorials on major & minor scale fretboard patterns covering the entire fretboard.

Try those & see how it goes. If you have more questions, please ask! Have fun. :)

Hey,

I fully back up 3-note per string scales! They are definitely the easiest, most effective way of visualizing, and playing scales... :)

Basically, instead of having to memorize like 8 or 9 patterns, you only have to memorize 7! :D

AND your fingers get much better exercised
