Hey fellow rockers!

I want to ask you something.

It's about the pentatonic and blues scale, which i have completely under my fingers. But i have a problem with it musically, how can the pros like Slash and Joe bonamassa vary up the notes like they do in basically all their solos, i have never figured that out?
And a player like Slash have said that he usually don't write his solos but improvises them. It's just all so different and cool... I want it!

but it's not only the blues scale, they also do it with the minor scale and mixolydian and such.

Do anybody have some thoughts on this? i would appreciate that alot

Hello caponi14,
Just my opinion: Scales are a great place to start BUT once you learn them you need to experiment with the notes from those scales: play the notes out of order, blend major and minor pentatonic notes, employ different techniques, practice using rhythm tracks or jamming with others. Who knows... maybe you'll be the next Slash. Rock on Caponi14!
sincerely,
Doug

Practice improvising over backing tracks. This has really helped me learn the scales and helped me with my lead. It is also a lot of fun!

Ear training will also benefit you greatly when it comes to improv.

I am a pretty decent improviser. I play nearly every solo i do out of improv. There is just something really great about the way for example Slash does it, or any of those big guns....I would offer everything to be able to do that. I quess it's just practice, practice and practice.

thank you people, thank you alot!
