Hi everyone, hope all are well, Just want to take a moment to introduce myself and my skill level and my future plans, My name is Ed Burton, from Ontario, Canada near Thunder Bay. I'm 56 years old and a complete newbie. I don't know how to read music nor do I understand the notes and such that one would see on a written music sheet.

I have a sigma acoustic guitar which must be 20 years old now or more. It's still in good shape although although I find that several strings tend to vibrate and the B string seems very loose when in tune. (I use an online tuner that uses a mic to tune as I don't have an ear for tuning manually at this time)

My goal is just to play as a hobby at home and for personal satisfaction. I plan to use the Guitar Tricks site as a registered user and then to purchase full access after I've absorbed all the basics as pertaining to a registered user. (budget constraints)

Ok, getting long winded, best close this. Thanks for listening.

All the best,

Ed

Hi Ed!! Welcome to the wonderful world of guitar! You are going to love it!

A quick tip though. Don't concern yourself with learning to read sheet music if your goal is to play at home for a hobby. It's not an "essential" part of your specific learning process. Now, if you're goal is to go and be a professional session or studio guitarist, than it would be very pertinent for you to read sheet music. But for you, I would recommend avoiding it as your practice time should be spent on other areas of playing.
