I was just looking at a bulletin board post on rollingstone.com

http://www.rollingstone.com/boards/alphalisting.asp?tid=405062

Most of the people here think that rock music cannot evolve anymore than what it has already done. Do you agree with this or do you think there are untapped ideas that have yet to be implemented that will change the face of rock music yet again?

I kind of think there is...and it will be I that shall accomplish it. Hahahahaha!!!!

...ok, maybe not but anyways...

There is always something new that somebody could do with Rock or any other genre at any time.

It just takes more vision than the average person was born with.

Back in Mozart's time, there was concern that all of the worthwhile possible combinations of notes had been used up. It isn't so these days, either.

yeah... I mean rock music has only really been around for 40 or so years, really it's still in it's infancy... I mean i think there'll be a further development in how we percieve sound... I mean the most complex thing we have now is stereo. which is good, but there's gotta be more... I've been reading up on synthesia, a very cool "syndrome" where poeple see music, and hear colours (this happens when your stoned on some drugs too)... Now i think it's not long before someone will be able to harness this so that WE SEE the music (you can still see everything else around you, so if your worried about walking into lamp posts if you were to use this on your walkman while walking around town)... I mean really, at the minute we've not got very far from the days of beethoven... How percieve sound is pretty much the same... other than some funky panning steroe effects...
Secondly, there may be a new effect as revolutionary as the wah in the pipeline as we speak...

ps: i couldn't find that perticular post... but I feel sooo good when i see a forum filled with poeple calling each other homos and going nowhere.. it kinda makes me look sensible... and reminds me what a good forum this is...

Yeah, if you would have went back through to where they were actually talking about something but that was all the way back to yesterday. There could have been 200 posts in which some dorks started some shouting match.

Here's my theory of "rock" music -

60's and 70's - anti-establishment, anti-war, etc

80's - sex

90' - depression, meaning of life, anti-religion

2000 - societal ills, relationships, misc nonsensical

Where will the theme go next??? You tell me . . .

yeah.. Ketamine (special k).

Personally I agree that in the future we're going to see more "multi-senses" type stuff. Like concerts that have huge backdrops of video that compliment the type of music.

They already do the video backdrop thing. Nine Inch Nails has been doing that for years. They have videos of nuclear bombs blowing up in the background, images of death and destruction. It's kind of disturbing. Check out the live video of Hurt from back in 95 I think. It was during the Self Destruction tour.

I've noticed that a lot of girls really like Trent. All the goth chicks I know say he's hot and stuff. It makes me wonder if they're even paying attention to the music or just his looks. Anyway, I've never been to a rave. The only place that I know of that has raves around this area is a gay hangout. Won't be going there. That's a muitl-sensory experience I have no desire for.

I hope you realise I was being facetious. You're actually much safer in a room full of gays than you would be in a thrash-metal bar.

What about Rob Halford though? He could theoreticly be found in either type of establishment.

Didn't you know, Lordathestrings? If you hang around gays too often you catch it from them.

no, the sensory thing i was talking about is where it's ONE sense, you can longer distinguish the sound from the colour, it's meant to be very very cool... Wether it would have any side effects i dont know.
