well, a moderator, for what I know, has to check out the site very often and read all the messages on his part of the forum.

He or she has to be some kind of "expert" in the field that he is moderating, so that questions don't stay unanswered.

As for differences, well, you can see that some guys don't always have good intentions, so someone has to be able to delete or edit the post that might be offensive.

You'll become a senior member after 100 posts. There are plenty of senior memebers with more posts than me; I just became a moderator late last year because Jon Brodercik was looking for some people willing to replace the orginal moderators who, as I understand, had been there since the beginning of the site and now don't really have the time to be constantly monitoring this forum.

I like the lack of responsibility that being a "Senior Member" entails.

When Jon was asking I thought about it, but I decided that I'd rather be the "grizzled forum veteran."

I mean, who else is gonna do it?

Aren't you too young to be considered "grizzled"?

no, i'm too young to be grizzled.
when i got the senior member promotion, i was worried some people would assume i know what i'm talking about - that is most definately not the case.

Well Vy, as I see it, being a moderator also implies that you get along with members.

As this thread shows, moderators have a demanding jobs and usually don't become insane by picking on Raskolnikov.

You'll see a lot of this in the forum :)

Rask, I can see this guy sitting in the background (maybe shades of Marlon Brando in Apacolypse Now), saying things like "man, don't get me started on the establishment. Those pansy moderators wouldn't know experience if it came up and and bit them on the a**. - sighs, wiping three day stubble - I might not have some cushy title, but I know more about the insides of a late 60s Vox AC30 than these guys could dream about...
And so on, I tend to develop little scenes like this someitmes...

Gropin'round in the guts of an AC 30 is suitable for pansies! Them wimpy 'lil Vox power stages have maybe 290 Volts on the plates. My VT-22 measures 594! :D

Amps? Nah.

But I suspect few of you get around a bass as well as I do.
