Hi All,

What's your take on song surgeon and riff master, Which is better and are they worth the investment.
Wouldn't it be great to have a software that could slow down any song, riff or solo and even TAB it for you? Or is there? Is that even possible?
Imagine learning any solo in like 1 2 3. Boy would I be a happy!

I don't know anything about those two. I do have Guitar Pro 6. It allows you to tab out your riffs, allows you to have regular music notation as well with time signatures and all that. It also allows you to set beats per minute.

They have a trial download. You might want to check it out.

I really like using Song Surgeon, I had to learn a solo for a gig in LA and it really helped out. What's cool is that you can adjust the frequencies so that the guitar part stands out more than the other parts. Also, I was able to slow down the tune without changing pitch, that was a big plus.

No and no. :(

Guitar Pro is a tool you use for creating tab. It has a synth engine in it that plays back your tab. It can export your tab that you've created into an MP3 but that's about the extent of that. But for tabbing itself, it's a great tool.

If you want to slow down the ORIGINAL then Song surgeon is good but sound gets muddy when you alter the speed too much.

IMHO WavePad Sound Editor is superior. The sound quality is maintained even when you slow it down to ridiculously slow, like 10%. Try downloading the free trial version and see if it works for you -

I haven't used riff master so can't comment on it.

Cheers

I use a program called "Transcribe!". I originally was looking for something like this so I could really slow down a song and try to tab it out myself. On that note, to answer your other question, there aren't any programs that can tab a song out for you. It wouldn't be accurate either most likely since it would go by pitch detection.

Transcribe! lets you slow a song down, change frequencies/eq settings and even lets you alternate pitch so that when you slow down a song and it gets "low", you can raise the pitch and have it sound like the original pitch.

I think it's on a trial basis, then you need to pay, but there are always ways around that on the internet. I'll leave it at that though

Your help has been greatly appreciated. Right now I,ve got Transcibe, wavepad, guitar pro5 so I plan on having fun. I like transcribe best though.

Did you guys know that quicktime player can also slow videos up to half speed? It's pretty simple to, what an amazing feature. Now i don't worry when I see really fast licks, if it's in flv or other format that quicktime can't play I just convert the video to mp4 and I use quicktime to slow it.
For those who don't know how, you just open a video with quicktime player, click on window on the menu bar, click show A/V controls a window opens, look to the bottom right you'll see playback speed move it to half and viola.
Hope this is beneficial to you all as it is to me.

How can Song Surgeon or something similar be applied to a Guitar Tricks video to slow down the video speed?

Don't know about Song surgeon, but, first you download the particular video, then use Song Surgeon or Quick-time player to open it.
For quick-time, click on window on the menu bar, click show A/V controls a window opens, look to the bottom right you'll see playback speed move it to half and viola.
Hope this helps.
