I'll try to help.

About powerchords. They're really fun and easy to play but they don't apply to all styles of music. Metal will use them by the truck load. If you pick up any Metallica tab you'l see, that's almost all they play. (I first learn with Metallica so I got a hold of powerchords early).

You've learned three chords so far, that's good. In fact it's better than when I started. I learned your basic chords 6-7 years after I started playing guitar. Yeah, I know I'm not a role model :)

The thing is that by playing chords you'll open yourself to new styles. Powerchords may limit your possibilities as it did for me. I couldn't play your basic chord progression. I was limited to one style for a long time.

One other thing is learning chords will help you build more strengh and stretch your fingers more. You'll gain more dexterity with chords than with powerchords.

So I suggest you stick with chords. Try to learn all chords ( C-D-E-F-G-A-B )and minor chords. With these, you'll have a good foundation. You'll be able to jam with friends. Always remember a lead guitarists is only as good as his rhythm guitarists is. Try to become a good rhythm player and then concentrate on lead. In other words learn to walk before learning to run.

For more help I'll need to know which style you want play.

Well, you are even newer than me. I've started almost a month ago. According to a friend of mine who's been playing for years I'm doing great though. Anyway, I've started off on an acoustic, I'm most likely going to buy the electric in the summer.
Well, if you'd like to learn a song, my first was (I still work on it to improve speed) House of the Rising Sun, I'm sure you're familiar with it. You use 5 basic chords and you play appregios (I think I got it right, I'm rather new to the terminology). Appregio is when you play a chord not hitting all the strings but playing them in some sequence.
Anyway the chords are as follows Amin, C, D, F, Amin, C, E (2x), Amin, C, D, F, Amin, E, Amin, E
and you play them like this:
(I name the strings 1, 2,..., 6, 1 being bottom and 6 being top string)
When you're holding A minor you hit the 4th string (should be the top string you're holding), then run your finger or pick down all four strings kinda fast then go up the strings 1,2 and 3 a bit slower. You do the same on all the other chords except you start on the 5th string with chords C and E (always start on the top string you're holding).
Well, you can't learn to play the guitar overnight, 2 weeks is deffinitely nothing, but what you (as do I) need to accomplish is that you can play without having to look at the neck. I'm slowly getting there with the basic chords but I still need to work on it.
I've got a bunch of songs with chords, you can probably find everything on the net as well.
Oh, and if you like blues fiddle around with a pentatonic scale, that sounds great :)

hello lauz, it takes awhile. you made a great start. I live in Mississippi so I am influenced by the blues. I have no problem with power chords but I would not start with them. Learn to play A with the 2-1-3 order. It makes for easy chord change from A-D-E. There is a Tom Petty song "know how it feels" that uses A-D-E and is a good song to practice timing. SING TO THE SONG FOR THE TIMING> look for an EASY song you can hear in your head and practice it. Practice every day even if it is just running through the chords. It takes time!!! good luck. Also, remember the acoustic guitar, great learning tool!!

That site I'm fond of mentioning;they have this same song,"House Of the Rising Sun"as one song in a series they call Easy Songs For Begginners, although that doesn't necesarily mean you'll find the songs easy.
You might want to see how they do the song, and maybe the other songs as well.Go to

I think you'll like it.

if you like punk, then you should probably learn power chords because they use ****loads of 'em. especially blink.

Oh, a piece of advice from a fellow beginner... don't attempt to study metal solos since that's a good way to discourage yourself, hehehe.
Powerchords are nice but actual chords are a good way to train your fingers.

Ok, that's really not my style of music but if I recall, Greenday did a great accoustic piece with only guitar and vocals.

Time of your life

Here's the link.

http://www.greenday.net/tabs/tabs_timeofyourlife.txt

If you don't feel ready to pick the notes just strum them it's going to as good anyway.

I really don't know a lot of punk so I may not be able to help you much more than that sorry.

This the link to almost all greenday songs.
