Anyone have experience with them? I'm still shopping (or at least fantasizing) about a new amp. I happened to just learn Traynor is Canadian made, which is an incentive to me, if only for the fact of it.

Been looking at this one
http://www.traynoramps.com/products.asp?cat=63&type=3&id=252

And also looking at this
http://www.traynoramps.com/products.asp?type=1&cat=60&id=424

[Edit] And I almost committed the sin of asking for info with no prespective, so...

My regular git-fiddles are a Dean Soltero, but I am becoming a decidedly Strat person. My chosen genres are Blues (SRV, Joe Bonnamassa), Classic Rock (Thin Lizzy, April Wine, Queen). I'm not a real metal head (at least as I define it) but I like to throw an MT2 into the mix sometimes whether the music calls for it or not. :)
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

Sorry, no info on them. Does this mean you've put aside the desire to build one?

For the time being. I'm all for the build experience, but my guitar projects take months as it is. I fear an amp would languish on the workbench the same way.

Was looking testing a Jet City 20 Watt Head & 1x12 cab (Soldano amp & Celestion speaker) that definitely had my interest the other day.

And I can actually get my hands on a pretty vintage Traynor solid state head that Dad used to gig with. I'm not keen on the SS but I might give it a try, too.

I think I'm just looking for some change.

Yeah I hear you. It does take some commitment to build it. Not too bad. It was fun, and while I was building it, I told myself, I'd never buy another tube amp again. Looking back... Not sure I would ever BUILD another one. :D

it was fun, but... I dunno...

My daily amp is a SS. It's a 60watt vintage 1969 Kustom. It has a beautiful clean to it. No gain or distortion of any kind... Which is something I think I really like about it. It does one thing and that one thing it does, it does very well. There's nothing digital in it at all, it's all old school analog. Which I think is why it seems so punchy for a SS amp.

This Traynor head is about the same vintage or very early 70's, so probably has the same analog factor. This will be funny. First he offered it a couple of times to me, and I turned it down. Then I wanted it, then when he brought it up and I said no again (I've already got 3 1/4 amps already =P). Now I'm thinking yes... again! The Father's Day visit might end up with me carting it home, yet. :D

Razbo...

BRING IT HOME!!!! Don't think about it just do it. I don't know anything about that amp. But if it's old like that, there is a great likely hood that it's a lil gem.

My Kustom was given to me by my grandfather when he passed away years ago. He was the original owner. Only thing I've done is replaced the caps and replaced the old speakers with some Eminence Ragin Cajun.

You might be surprised at how much you like the cleans.

I do that waay too often. But you make a good point. I could at least "borrow" it for a while.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. Do you have a SS at home? One of the nice things about them is you get bedroom volumes with your FX plugged in.

2 of my amps are SS. One's just a beater (Peavey 258) with some effects built in that I keep in the workshop. My other is also a Peavey (Audition Plus). This one has no effects but the "SuperSat" overdrive and feeds back pretty bad past the 2:00 mark. It has channel switching and is a solid little beast, so I keep it as a back up amp.

I have hooked my mfx pedal to it, and can get some nice tone with effects, but I still prefer my Fender amp. There's just something about tubes and I don't need any effects to get good tone. Believe me, I was all "Whats the big deal with tubes? It seems like just more hassle", but now I am pretty sold on the tubers.

I think I will try this Traynor. It was an amp to envy back in it's day. Maybe it'll open my mind back up to SS. :) I wish I remembered the model off the top of my head.

I decided not to bring it home. I've got too much stuff as it is. 15 guitars (I just realized doing an inventory) and 3 and 1/4 amps. I'm holding out to get what I really want and what I really want (at this moment in time) is a Hotrod Deluxe.

I'm going off memory here. Wasn't it a free amp your father was giving you?

My first 'real' amp was a Traynor Bassmaster (still think that looks like a name for a fishing boat) with a 2x12" cab. It was fierce!

I'm olde skool, so I prefer tubes, but my Ampeg G-18 10 Watt transistor amp gets as much use as my 60 Watt V-2 heads. It sounds really good!

So, try out that SS Traynor. If you don't like it, nothing lost.

That may happen yet. It's not going anywhere, and who knows what the 'morrow will bring?
