Whammy bar

Hi to all.
I need a little help. Maybe there is a lesson about it but can't find now. How do you use your whammy bar? Anytime I fix mine the guitar goes out of tune. Any help will be appreciated.

Push bar down: Pitch goes down
Pull bar out: Pitch goes up

What do you mean every time you "fix" it? What are you fixing?

What kind of guitar and what kind of whammy bar? All are not equal. Any pics would help a lot.

Neal had a brief tutorial on his Channel about 5 or 6 months ago.

I'm going to jump ahead and guess it's not a Floyd Rose style of trem, or your concerns would be different than they are. :p

Again, not knowing what guitar you have, you can try some lubricant on the nut (shave graphite off a pencil, or buy a specialty lube), make sure you have good tuning machines. Locking Sperzels are popular.

Put enough springs and tension so that the bridge holds tight to the body when at rest. You won't be able to pull up on the trem, but the tuning will be a lot more stable.

Hey Carmine,

Razbo's suggestion of using pencil lead works pretty well. You can just sharpen a pencil and rub it in each string groove on the nut.

Also, after using the whammy on a strat (down motion) you can give a gentle yank up to get it back in tune. It's not always perfect but I've found it works pretty good. I read it in an interview with Eddie VH.
