Hi there, I have just bought a strat and put some new d adario strings on it gauge 10. I have noticed that I cant seem to do slides easily on E A D strings, the strings feel very dull and not easy to slide about. I do not know why this is as this is my usual brand of strings. the only difference is I have moved to a Strat and was playing a ibanez before.

Congrats on the Strat! :) If the strings are the same as you are used to, I can't think why you'd find it different on the strings themselves.

Some other factors may be coming into play, though such as the Strat probably having a thicker neck than your Ibanez. What scale was the Ibanez? The Strat would be a 25 1/2 and if your other geet was 24 3/4, just the increased distance might be noticeable to you.

Try some Fast Fret. Makes everything better and your strings last longer, too.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

Fast Fret? Is that a conditioner you put on your strings? Never heard of it.

GHS Fast Fret. I have used it since '84. Made with white mineral oil. Won't harm finish good for the fingerboard. Brightens strings, makes them last and feels slick to play on.

Fast Fret is a great suggestion.

Also, I find sliding on coated strings much smoother than uncoated. I know this doesn't exactly speak to your question, but it's another possible way to go.

Ha, good one!

As to the strings off ebay, is it possible that they sat in some degree of dampness and tarnished on their own? ...but then they should have been in sealed plastic, right?

Well, strings are pretty cheap. Easy to find out by getting a nice fresh set.

For myself I use D'Addario bright round wound .009-.042's on my 25 1/2" scales and .0095-.044 sets on my 24 3/4" scales.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.
