I've read that the Pod is not a unit for beginners and takes a bit of coaxing to get a good tone. However, once you get the hang of it, it can have awesome tone. Just to note, again, for recording, you probably don't want to rely on one single type of tone to make your sound. You may want to record different tone variations to build your sound when you record.
