I think in this situation that it means the strings are muted and you still strum them... to give that clicking sound.
Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance.

Right - you play the ones with the 'o' and avoid playing the ones with the 'x' over them.

Shouldnt it just have PM-----| over it? Or do you mean completely muted out? It dosent sound like he does that though. :/ And if your not supposed to play them then shouldnt they just not be there?

You should probably ask in the Instructor's forum if its not clear to you in the lesson... Better chance of the instructor seeing your post and being able to answer your question.

In this tab the 'X' signifies a muted strum to give the click type sound. If it was meant to show strings not played then all 6 strings would not be x'ed out twice. The fact that all 6 strings are x'ed would have terrible redundancy and notation that is not necessary if it was showing skipped string.
God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son”
Abe says, “Man, you must be puttin’ me on”
God say, “No.” Abe say, “What?”
God say, “You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin’ you better run”
Well Abe says, “Where do you want this killin’ done?”
God says, “Out on Highway 61”

I would think any of the instructors would know but I am sure that Chris would know. Let us know what you find out.

You could also go to the instructors tab and click on Neal's picture and there is the ability to message an instructor directly through the profile page....

I am certain that those are picked while muted with the fretting hand. Think of the early guitar work in SRV's little wing. The 12 second mark of this video.
