hey folks i have a question, and would like some opinions.
i just got back to playing after 14 yrs of not playing.
the old pedal board still fires up and runs like it did
some yrs ago. i just added a boss 20 looper last night to help me get back in shape and get my chop library restocked.
ok heres the deal, the old boss heavy metal isnt
up to snuff any more. shes seen better days.
all staticy when ya turn the knobs, cable input noise,
you know the deal. it might be time to add myself a new distortion
pedal to the board. im pretty much a boss fan and thats probably what i'll buy. i like the sounds of old VH, brad gylis when he was with ozzy,
steve vai, just good punchy, high gain tone. i do like a boogie lead sound too.
what pedal would you guys suggest? the guitar will be a jackson or one of my
homemade jobs.

ok next question, what pedal would you guys suggest for my strat with single coils? looking for a good southern rock/bluesy sound.
is there a boss pedal that will fit both of my needs?
these pedals will be running through any number of old peavy, fender, crate, or carvin amps.
another 80s metal fan.

May i suggest you try looking at the Boss pedal demos on YouTube? (Boss Sound Check)

I Don't know what amp the guy plays through, but for the best part he plays a beautiful old looking STRAT! . . .the MT2 alas. is played with a LP.

Are you into modding pedals? You might be interested in checking out www.bossarea.com. Even if you don't want to mod it, they may be able to help you get it back up to snuff.

I have a boss ds1 that I modded. I really like it. I put the seeing eye mod in it. I also have two Metal Zone MT2. I modded one, and bought the other modded already. They are very heavy, you may not like them. I'm not even sure that i like them persay.

If I was to buy another pedal, the one I personally would be getting is the MD-2 Mega Distortion. http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=129&ParentId=254

ive never played a modded pedal.
i really like the boss HM. its been a key player for me for yrs now.
its a bit bassy but i can EQ the bass down when i need to. my carvin x100
from the 80's seems to love the pedal too. they work well together.
say, where can i get those rubber incerts that go in the screw hole of the battery compartment at? cant find them anywhere.
send me a pic, if its viewable, of your modded pedal.
interesting to see.
why are you not sure if you even like the pedal? lol

you ever heard ozzy's speak of the devil cd?
thats brad gyliss of night ranger playing on that album.
best sounding live album ive heard.
brads tone is amazing. hes using a boogie i believe.
i want something close to that sound w/o buying a boogie to get it. lol
good luck right?

Modding pedals is like smoking, once you start, hard to stop. :D

Not sure what rubber things your talking about. Never seen the Boss HM before either.

If you're going for that boogie sound, you may like the Metal Zone.

The Metal Zone that I play the most has the Robert Keely mod. I guess I can't say i'm not sure if I like it or not... I just haven't spent enough time tweeking it. It can get a bit thin sounding. I've been playing with it more lately trying to dial it in. I turned some of the high frequencies down on my EQ pedal. I'm finding that between those two I can get some british honk. Mashallish if you will.

I'm not sure who played on Speak of the Devil. I've only know of three guitarists for Ozzy. Randy, Jake, and Zakk....

You had me thinking so I had to go look it up to be sure. uphttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozzy_Osbourne#Band_members

lol dont worry, on speak LP it was brad.
hes one of my fav's of all time.
im gonna go try the MZ pedal.
ok on the rubber thingy.
you know where the thumb screw is
to the battery compartment on the boss
pedals is right? the part you screw down
after you put the battery in.
ok its the rubber piece that the
screw goes through on the body of the pedal.
