I am trying to do a bluesy riff using an open A
so I am starting on the B string and hitting it upwards but either hit too hard or miss strings out.

What I dont get is how to put a rhythmic feel into it like the blues rather than continous strumming like indie down up down up etc..

are there any bridges to this technique to get me ther as it sounds poor at the moment.

Regards

Strumming techniques and playing with a good rhythmic feel are things that are so important for guitar players and often overlooked.

Honestly, I am having a little trouble with your question. Can you be a little more specific? When you say a riff using open A, do you mean an open A chord or just the open string?

Also, what exactly keeps happening? Are you searching simply for other rhythmic patterns to play to make it more bluesy? Could you perhaps send a link to a video that shows the playing style you are searching for?

See if any of these help.

Some of the lessons in these focus on the right hand technique. The left hand of course has the main job of fretting notes. But don't forget the left hand has the additional important job of muting with this type of playing.
