My Strat's peeling!

I bought an American Standard Strat last Year.

Recently a clear, adhesive plastic film has begun to peel off the scratch board and there is some blistering of this film around some of the the screw heads.

Should I peel it off altogether and, if so, how can I remove the adhesive which remains?

I do believe that's the protective plastic film on the pickguard. You can peel that right off. It's primary purpose was to protect the plastic from scratches until delivered to the consumer. ;)
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

That's what I suspected but I'll then be stuck with a scratch board resembling fly paper!

It shouldn't leave any stickiness behind. If that's what it is, you find it on pickguards, electronic displays, etc. I peel mine off and it leaves nothing behind.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

If I'm not mistaken, little to no adhesives should have been used for the protective covering. In most instances, it is held on by static. This is the same kind of thing you would use for a protective screen cover for cell phones etc. The covering was made to sit as a protection for some time and ok to peel off.

Well, it's definitely tacky if I lift up a corner.

Maybe, it's a FENDER UK thing.

I know the stuff you mean, Jeff, but its definitely not that. It's more like the protctive stuff they put on Formica boards in DIY stores.

another good place to use naptha or wd 40, small amount on a rag will take the residue off, personally i would use wd-40

Thanks for that, shrekfingers. I think the WD40 would be better as I'm not sure having the best part of a quart of flammable liquid lying around would be a good idea!

Also think I'll leave it 'til I restring.

Know what you mean, I posted that stew mac sight to back up my recommendations for the naphtha, lighter fluid is the same thing but I have use wd-40 to remove a lot of sticky things and it works great, just don't use a bunch as it will leave a residues as well. small amount on a rag, Lil dab'L do ya.
