Well I may be too old to learn but I want to at least try. Good luck to all the other new members.

Welcome to GT Terry..
I don't know how old to learn is, but I'm giving it a try too. I'm mid 60ties...
I believe there is one member that is 70.. Several have made remarks of deciding to try learning guitar at there old age or re-learning from many years away... I'm just learning for myself because I love guitars and if someone taps a foot in time that's great too..
Good Luck with the new venture and keep on a pickin'

It is never to late to start anything (perhaps an olympic swimming career, but who knows.) None the less, I think it is a great thing that you are starting at this stage and I think you will find it to be a very fulfilling venture. It warms my heart to see people in there 60' and 70's wanting to take on new ventures as it shows you still love to learn, and your mind and body will thank you for it honestly. Best of luck and never assume it to late to start, as music is a life time gift.

Thanks for the encouragement. I really want to learn the guitar. My two son-in-laws are really good. I want to someday pick with them on the front porch. I'm going to give it all I got. I think I made the right choice in getting the Guitar Tricks program. My wife got me a new Taylor for Christmas so I don't want to let her down either.

Playing with other musicians is truly one of the keys to success in the playing of any instrument. Setting goals to play with your sons in law is a great goal to have, as you will have the ultimate fulfillment through doing that I feel. Also, take advantage of having great players at your disposal by asking them questions and picking their brains about how they play and struggles you may be having. Good luck!

Well Lisa, I love how you finger pick songs. I would love to be able to do that. You make it look so easy. When I do it, it is not so good. I thought I was more coordinated with my hands than I am. I think the right side of my brain is not functioning properly, LOL. I haven't got to try any other instructors yet. Just taking it slow for awhile. One problem is, I tend to push down the strings too hard and make my fingers hurt. I'm trying to not do this. Thanks for helping me achieve my goal.

Hi Terry..
The finger pain goes with the territory.. I think that it is one of the biggest subject I've seen posted in the forums..
You just have to endure it for a week or so.. Depends on your pain threshold.. You'll soon have calluses built up and won't have any pain problem if you keep them tough..
There is something that are claimed to help.. I won't quote any because I haven't had experience with them..
You might have one of your son-in-laws make sure your string hieght isn't to high. You can put on a lighter set of strings..

Thanks again. Yeah I see other people had the same problem with finger pain. I will work through it though. I think I just practice too long at first, I want to be a guitar player too fast maybe.

I'm new to guitar lessons. I've played on my own for about 10 years. I have a great rhythm and natural ability, but i want to learn the basics and get an understanding of music. great to be here!!
