I've been playing guitar for sometime - just rythm and mainly chords. I want to start playing lead blues.

Can you please let me have your opinions on joining guitar tricks - how good is it and will I be able to learn to play lead blues guitar? Is it worth me subscribing?

Thanks

I think so. You have options now of learning all the theory you could need to play any style, plus specifically Blues courses, plus learning songs that are being regularly posted, such as SRV's The Sky is Crying.

Does that help?

Are there any other online guitar courses that are better?

There are lots of offerings out there. I before settling here searched for a while and have been subscribed to other sites, but this is the only subscription I kept up. You need to know what you want to focus on as well. Do you want to learn theory, and the "how & why" of it all, or do you really just want to learn songs?

I can't say one or another is "better". It really depends on what you personally are looking for. I can also say the community was part of my decision, to that might also be something to consider.

I mean, technically - if you have the patience - you can probably learn everything you need for free via YouTube & various websites.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

One of the key things to remember about GT is the level of credibility that the sight possesses. All of the teachers on this site are world class players whom play all over the globe, performing on every major network, having their tracks heard around the world, etc. This is not simply a collection of guitar teachers; this is a collection of professionals whom are working in the real world in about every style you can possibly think of, again playing all over the world. That alone far exceeds the cost of membership.

As far as the blues, the site has just launched it's Blues Level 2 course that is about as credible as it gets. Anders Mouridsen does a great job of giving you all the hidden gems behind the blues and a wealth of great information about the style and it's players. If that is a little above where you are at, you can still learn something from it. You can also check out Blues Level 1, which has a wealth of great ways to incorporate Blues into the playing of any beginner. The site is also adding much more to that section of the site, so get ready for even more blues insight.

Best of luck in your decision and I can assure you can't go wrong with this site, especially for the price.

I've been playing for a few decades (with some time off for good behavior ;) )....I really like this site. I had skill to play but really needed the theory behind it. This place is a great foundation.

It's really good for beginning guitarists, there is a series call 'Fundamentals' that gives you the basis for just about anything you need to know about playing guitar as you move on and improve.

The quality of instructors is outstanding. Just as a for instance, a few have showed up on various (national) TV things. Here, the delivery is easy to understand is gives it in a manner where you don't feel like to have to have a degree in something to get it.

I recommend.

I have been playing off and on for years. I played Gunge/alt rock in highschool (It was the early-mid 90's). I played acoustic Irish Folk in my late 20's and now I play blues and classic rock. I have to say I have learned so much in the last 6 months on this site than I have in the 15 or so years of playing by ear and learning from books, videos, etc. Man I can't begin to tell you!

Chris does a great job in the fundementals section gettin you broken in. I learned a lot of stuff I never knew and got rid of some bad habbits I had developed in my playing. Then I moved on to Blues. I tell ya Anders is a Blues God! His lessons are great! Definitly what you are looking for! You will be screaming some serious blues solos in no time!

All the teachers are very cool and very willing to answer your questions. As someone else pointed out ( I think it was Raz) that the community aspect of it is great too. You will make friends with people on these forums and many are willing to share thier info on your questions as well.

You cant beat the price bro. Try it for a month, it cost less than a large pizza (Papa John's Mmmm) and a six pack! I am completely happy with my susbscription here!

I have been with GT for almost two months and at least for a rookie player, such as myself, I think GT is excellent.

Good luck

You could not be more right about the sense of community through GT. You can contact many of the instructors directly, many of whom are also regulars on the forum where you can have all of your questions answered. Also, you can touch base with students and professionals alike across the globe. Again, best of luck in your decision; you won't regret it.

Happy Holidays!

I can't add much more than what the others have already stated, except that I've learned more than my old brain can hold in a very short time of being a member.

As a total beginner who has wanted to learn for years, GT is helping me SO much! Two months in and I'm loving every minute! The site is so well thought out and easy to follow. Its great to go back and forth when I need a refresher, and it feels so relaxed! Even when my fingers hurt beyond belief, its only a matter of hours before I'm on again! Highly recommend GT! :) :)

I think the site has a lot to offer and there are a lot of skills that I can learn. I am not that interested in theory though I will not avoid it. ON that note, I believe that Guitar Tricks is somewhat lacking in lessons for acoustic players. they need to add more songs in the singer songwriter style. There are so many of us 50 somethings who are getting back into guitar and want to play songs that they listened to by all those great singer songwriters. I am not ignoring the people that are into playing electic rock and blues. There is plenty here for them. I just think there should be more for those who play strictly acoustic.
thanks
