Can you read music or just tab? Most tab books are accompanied with traditional music notation. Use that as your rhythm guide.

As well as play along with the song if you have it on CD or mp3. Even if you don't, you maybe be able to find it on youtube or something.

I would encourage you to take some lessons. In the meantime you will have to REALLY listen to the songs as you follow along with the tab.

Reading standard notation would help you in the long term but you don't NEED to just to play the tunes you like.

If you can find tabs that also have the lyrics sort of following along with the tab that will also give you a hint as to where to change chords etc...

Some of the guitar mags publish the tab with the rhythm...again you will need some basic education on reading music to understand what you are looking at.

Truth. It is one thing to learn the notes, but another to actually feel it in the write rhythm. There are more than enough ways to practice this. I would start by consciously tapping your foot and moving your body whenever you are listening to music. Make sure you are tapping in time, and feel free to even dance a little. Body movement is key is showing that you really FEEL the rhythm.

Do you feel you do this already?
