I finally figured out why when I recored through my PODx3, into Reaper it sounded so terrible. I could tell that the levels were way too high and it was distoring the sound.

But, it wasn't until I noticed that the clipping light on the PODx3 was going off that a light blub clicked... It wasn't that I had the levels to high in Reaper, rather it was the output from the PODx3 that was too high.

Now, it sounds great. Well.. Ok.. My playing skills still need to improve and I'm there is a lot more I need to learn about Reaper and overall effects settings before it will be spot on, but, at least I'm comfortable that I can share something and know it's not going to sound like an over driven transister radio.

Sometimes the answer is right in front of you! Are you using the Midi input on the channels or Stereo? That's where I had a problem... Could only get Stereo to work for me. I'd install it on this PC and get back at it, but I'm afraid to record myself lol!
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

I have no clue whats going on... I open it up, create a project. Load up a new track, arm it and record. I have MUCH to learn.

I happy because now, I wont have anymore of those pissy moments where you come up with your next favorite riff one night, then forget what it was the next. I've had too many of those.

In fact, that happen just today. I had something I was playing last night. It wasn't complete, but it was very cool for what little time I had put into it. That was about 12:30 last night... Today? Can't recall for the life of me what it was.

You know, while it does sound better, I'm coming to realize that it's only bearable. It still sounds rather thin.

Curious to know if it's my PODx3 settings.

My RP250 has a switch for amp vs. mixer, and it does sound thiner on mixer setting when playing thru the amp. Do you have one of those?

The Line 6 PODx3 has a USB out to a computer, I'm using Reaper for my DAW. I tried a different DAW (name escapes me now) but I couldn't get it to run on Windows 7. In fact, I think Chris had suggested it along with another guy I know.

DAW... That's basically your computer, right? Your Digital Audio Workstation, comprised of h/w, and s/w, including Reaper in this case?

I was referring to an actual switch on my pedal. Mine also runs via USB to the computer, 2 channels up & 2 down for stereo, etc. But there is also a push-button switch there, marked Mixer/Amp. It adjusts something about the output to make it more compatible with recording devices versus amplification devices.

In my documentation it recommends using the mixer setting for headphone use as well, so I've heard directly with my own ears there is a difference.

Oh well, I guess I can't make your box have a switch on it. :)

I'm trying to find a link I had and lost... It was like a Reaper Wiki. Was the best thing I'd found, but all I get now searching is a wikipedia entry =P If I get lucky, I'll post it.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

I got some tips from the Line 6 website. I may have some settings wrong on my pod itself. Going to go home tonight and check it out. I hope that fixes it.

DAW is reaper in your case yes. It is simply a fancy name for whatever recording software you are using. Some of us still don't notice the clip light. Sigh!

Meaning you don't know where the clipping light indicator is? OR Some people don't pay attention to it while recording?

Meaning that no matter how professional you are, sometimes you overlook the clip light flashing bright in your face.

Agreed. Texture is achieved by the oddest sources. I firmly believe the best textures come from happy accidents.
