playing Consistency
I've been playing for 6-7 years and quit lessons one year ago because of the cost and have been steadily improving on my own. A few months after quiting lessons I started daily practice with a metronome(1 hour) and at least another 3 hours daily of just playing but the problem is I don't seem to be able to preform at the same level everyday accuracy, speed etc. some days I'm dead on and others its like I haven't played in months. Any advice maybe something I'm not seeing any help would be greatly Appreciated

I have the exact same problem! even though iv only played for one year i have the exact same thing! and i also practice 4 hours everyday (give or take a bit) My fingers feel really tired and not way as fast as they were some weeks ago.
I would also like to know what to do?

Hey guys, i have a couple things i think may help. first practicing for more then 3 hours a day may hurt more then help. Keeping total focus on your playing for more then 3 hours is hard to do I find. If you play Everyday then you shouldn't need more then 3 hours of technique because it could put unesissary stress on your body. If you lose focus your playing could become sloppy/inaccurate. The other thing is excessive muscle tension. most guitar players use way too much of excessive muscle tension. Make sure when you are playing anything you think about relaxing everything from you feet on the floor up to your legs, then back, shoulders, neck and face. If you start playing anything fast for yourself and feel any of those areas getting tight then stop. Put the metronome to a crawl and play it again, focusing on using as little tension as possible. relaxing is the key to consistent speed and acuraccy.

Get into that mindset before starting to practice. Amp yourself up maybe. And defenetly warmn up before practicing, very important, this can be the difference on proper practice.

So do you think it would be best to not practice with a metronome everyday?, In some ways its become kind of a vice because I don't feel confident or any thing with playing until Ive done that each day like I'm slacking wich can't be healthy.
