Welcome back to Music Theory grade 1. This time around, a test to make sure that all the grade 1 material from the first four parts has sunk in. If you need to refresh your memory, you can check out the rest of grade 1 by following these links (no cheating!):

And here comes the test! Answers for each question appear below the question in white text, so if you highlight the section below the question, you'll find out if you were right:

1) Which time signature are the following pieces in?



Answers: 1 – F#, 2 – E, 3 – C, 4 – G, 5 – D, 6 – F#, 7 – G, 8 – A, 9 – G


5)In the passage above, the 4/4 time signature means that there are four quaver beats per minute. Is this statement true or false?

Answer: False – 4/4 is four crotchet notes per bar


6)The passage above is in the key of G Major. List the bars that contain all 3 notes of the tonic triad:

Answer: Bars 1 and 2

7)Give the meaning of each of these:

Cantabile

Answer: In a singing style

rall.

Answer: Rallentando – gradually getting slower

Allegretto

Answer: Fairly Quick

Answer: Forte – Loud

Cresc.

Answer: Crescendo – gradually getting louder

Staccato

Answer: Detached
