Hey guys, I'm no doubt a serious old timer to most here (74) I have an old Fender twin that is terrible heavy. I need to keep the sound but I need a MUCH lighter amp. What you guys think? Thanks muchly in advance

Hey headsmashedin,
I happened upon a great deal last year, a friend decided he was going to upgrade and get a really high dollar amp. He sold all of his other stuff to raise the money for it, and I got a great deal on a Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 cab.
It's half the weight of my old Music Man, and sounds great no matter what I play through it.

I don't know how light you want to go, this one is 53.5 lbs. 60 watts and it will handle any room I play. In the videos I do, I don't even have it on 2, and I'm even going through the pedal board first.

There are probably even lighter options out there, but I thought I would let you know about my hot rod. I know it gives me the sound I want, without breaking my back.

I sold a 70's Twin for a family member and those things ARE heavy!

Find an old late 60's to early 70's Princeton and replace the 10" speaker with a 12"... they are absolutely AMAZING little amps. All the twin tone, in a small package... just have to mic the cab to get any power out front in the mains.
I did that to my 71 Princeton and it's my main session amp herenin Nashville. I put a 12" Roland keyboard amp speaker in it, so it would have a clear clean frequency response from fat lows, to peircing highs. I think the amp I tore apart was a bolt 60...
anyway, Great tone is in the ear of the beholder...

I thought about your amp after my post, but with a rehearsal, and the rest of the schedule, you beat me to it.

That was the sweet little amp, we tested my Forrest bendocaster out on.

Hey Forrest how did the show with Matt Rae, and Tim Wallis go? You said you would put some vids up on youtube, really want to see some of that show. The Bendegos are great, they come from a long line of string benders.

I have the gig this weekend, so I better get ready for it. I got an amp to load, man I miss my roadie.

I like the sound of the Princeton. I will look into that. I don't know about changing speakers unless it is a nessasary act to keep the country twang I must have. I do play to very small crowds if that matters. Thanks again
