I'm fairly new at playing. Currently I have a Strat knockoff, a Kramer Focus that I won for free in a sweepstakes thing a few years back. It's an ok starter, but I want to upgrade to an Ibanez RG. I'm a little scared of the whole Edge III gimic though. On my Kramer I know how to change strings and get it in tune. I can adjust the intonation and action within 5 to 10 minutes. All the stuff I read about this floating bridge thing sounds like you have to be a tech god to do it.

I do want a trem on it though. Shopping around I've found some nice ones for 399 to 450ish. I figured in that price range would be good for an advanced beginner player.

So to sum up my questions. What would you (you being a person with some experience) think about an advanced beginner jumping up to an RG with the EdgeIII trem system. Also can someone clue me into if ibz Inf3 and Inf4 pickups are any good?

Here's the link to the guitar I was eyeing.

Hi there, as a long time abuser of ibanez guitars i can only rate them at the top of the market. As far as the trem systems go, intonation can be a problem if you start messing with the tuning and string guage. Easy way around that is to get your new stings put on by a guitar shop everytime and make sure they do a full set up including intonation and action. Well worth the small cost. If you can, try to find a newer model with the latest trem system, intonation problems are now thing of the past. As far as experience with ibanez goes, i've got an RG custom, a Prestige, a 7 string Universe and a Jem and i used to have an SX (first Ibanez I ever owned - great entry level axe - customised it with a pair of Dimarzio Evolution pickups). All excellent guitars in their own right.
Only negative thing can say is the stock ibz/dmz pickups suck and blow when compared to a matched set of dimarzio's. Ot's easy to upgrade the pickups when you have a good guitar and know what sound you want though. Overall, you cant go wrong with ibanez, even the cheapest entry level models are good guitars when you upgrade the pickup's. Go on, join the club!
