Hello all,
For years I've always wanted to learn the guitar but kept having excuses. We all know how it goes. I am now 1 year over the half century mark and for my birthday my daughter and son-in-law got me an electric guitar combo. She told me she didn't want to hear any more excuses. But I kept procrastinating and it sat around for 3 months. Birthday was in August. Well out of the blue my girlfriend bought me a nice acoustic last weekend for an early Christmas present. So I am out of excuses now and actually am excited to learn. They are both sitting on stands next to by computer. I prefer the acoustic and will learn on it, but will play around on the electric also. I researched around and found this site to learn guitar. I have started on Beginner 1 and so far pretty good. I like the videos and the ability to download them. A lot of good information here. Thumbs up. Hal :)

Hello Hal,
The electric would be easier on your fingers, and after you build some callouses on your fingers go the acoustic. You could also use both, it really depends on what you want to play.

I learned to play on acoustic, and goofed off on an electric for years. I really didn't start learning techniques on an electric until 96, before that I was always playing too hard on electric.

My tech says I'm really hard on my guitarsanyway, been working on a lighter touch when I pick the teles. Let us know what you want to learn, and we'll be glad to help any way we can.

Sixpicker,
That's nice to know. I thought about that, but being so new to guitars I didn't know if it really matters if you are trying to learn. I know it's a matter of personal choice, electric or acoustic, and the type of music you want to play, but if I learn on electric which is easier, then can I apply what I've learned on the electric to the acoustic? At least until I get advanced enough. Anybody else have any thoughts or input on this. THanks
