Hi there!

I am the new custodian of the monthly solo assignment

I've made a track for you guys this month. It's the easiest track to solo over yet! All you need is the D minor blues scale and you'll be sounding like SRV in just 2 seconds. (the mixolydian scale is also there for you cooler cats to bust out)

The tune goes like this:

A7 G7 D7x2

See if you can make that not sound boring for 2 minutes!

You can download it, and a tiny sample solo over the track, from my purevolume site right here:

Julian's Purevolume

I'm accepting backing tracks from people for the coming months, so if you have made one that you think is jammin', PM me and I'll give you my email. :)

What's the tempo in this? 80bpm? I'm trying to set my delay effect and I can't seem to get it right.

The tempo is 101bpm, but the actual feel of the tune is like half that.

I've had a few goes at this and I am now under the understanding that I suck at soloing.. haha :o Oh well, I'll keep trying till I find something that's at least not horrible. I'm trying to find a lick to centre the entire solo around, I've found a couple of possibles but having trouble deciding how much to focus on the lick and how much to just improvise around it. My head keeps sending me the way of Eric Clapton style soloing...

Sounds fantastic dude. One of the great things about having such a simple backing track is it lets people just play, y'know?

I noticed you used the Aminor blues scale throughout, and it sounds good. did you try the Dminor blues scale?

Not to be rude but I refuse to listen to anyone else's till I have done mine, even the sample solo from Julian has thrown me off being individual/unique just a little... So I'll have a listen later..

Quick question.. what is the deadline for submissions? End of the month?

Thanks Julian. I didn't try the Dminor but I will try it later. Maybe some interplay between the 2 scales would work. After listening to it this morning I feel it needs to be more interesting.

light487: I'm the same way. I don't listen to others till I'm done. That's why I'm usually one of the first to post my track. :D

I've cleaned up the stickies a bit. :) Maybe Jon would allow you a mod spot just in this forum for the time being Julian?

I finally caved in and listened to the two submissions and I can see I have a bit of challenge to do better than these two already. Nice work with the different effects there zoso.. I was a little worried at first, the first effect you used I didn't like very much but then you changed it into something that was a lot more pleasurable to listen to.

BCNick's piece is very nice also, found the right tone and effect to stay with the entire solo. I like both of them equally in different ways.. I think listening to them has actually helped with motivating me to try just a little harder to get the sound I want.

Have not been around much since June. Work has been Hectic. I am sitting in a Hotel Room in Des Moines Iowa. Brought my guitar with me so I decided to throw together a quick solo for this month. Its pretty raw and a little repetitive. But it helped pass the time. :)

yeh your link is pointing to your update page, rather than the track itself.

The link below should work though:

Hey. I'm new at the forums, I just got an email about it so I decided to do something with it. anyway, the begining is kinda sketchy, I like the ending, though. Please tell me what I need to improve on, thanks.

P.S. there is a lot of panning, so it might be good to listen to it with headphones.
