I don't know if there is a forum for this but yeah i just got a guitar and on Iron Man Intro Barre Chords with slides when i listen to the little Media clip of an example it's like more of a metal sound than when i play it... Like when i play it it's a lil dull and yeah... >< if anyone understands my question and has a solution please answer >.>. Is it like i'm not strumming hard enough. Or something with the amp.

Hi. Well, we will probably need to know a little more about your equipment. What sort of guitar? What sort of amp? How is the amp set up? Do you have any effects available to you? Gain on?

If you give this information, I am sure that someone can come up with the right answer for you.

Welcome to GT. Great site and a lot of really helpful people. Enjoy!! :)

It could be your amp settings or the guitar pickups. You may be able to purchase an effects petal to get the sound your after.

My guitar is a johnson so is my amp. I have no petals and the only settings on my amp is Volume, Master Volume, Treble, and Bass.

Metal bands use distortion to create the sound you're refering to.

Some amp have built in distortion. It is most often called "Gain". Your amp doesn't seem to have a gain control. That means your amp will produce a clean sound with very little distortion if not at all.

Like dvenetian, sometimes guitar player uses pedals to produce the distortion. If you watch one of my metal rhythm lesson, you will hear the distortion.

I use a external effect to produce that sound. It's a Zoom G2.1U effect pad.

If you want to play metal (Like Black Sabbath's Iron Man) you'll need an amp that has Gain, or an external unit like a pedal (one effect) or an effect pad (multi-effect).

ya I have a Zoom G2.1U as well, its an awesome bit of kit. Perhaps sometimes also if you have the volume all the way up on you guitar, use the pickup closest to the bridge and turn the volume down a bit on your amp you can generate a little bit of distortion as well, might sound a bit more like what you are after.
By the pricking of my thumbs something wicked this way comes.............

On my first ever amp, which was a very tiny 15w amp, the distortion worked by cleverly using the Volume and Master Volume knobs. Granted it doesn't sound anything like the effects I have had in the past but it did give me a taste for distortion that I didn't have before that.

The way it worked was that if you move the Volume knob up to the highest setting, which is 10 on most amps :D, and then used the Master Volume to set the actual volume, you get a over-driven sort of sound.. And if you have it other way around (ie. Master Volume set at max, with Volume controlling the real volume), then you end up with the standard clean sound.
