First, I would like to start my offering my apologies for removing the chat without consulting peolpe.

Clearly a lot of people have good memories of the GT Chat and there is more support for continuing it than I thought there would be.

I should have let people know what I intended to do, to give everyone a chance to work out an alternative.

I am not opposed to having a chat on GT. I just want to have a good chat.

The only effort needed to make a chat successful is for people to be in the chat room.

I know my experience with our GT Chat for the last six months is that no one is in there.

For Chat to really work, this needs to change.

I have heard through private messages that several people have come forward offering to put in effort to make sure that the chat does become popular enough to sustain itself.

These folks are regular members who have offered to make the chat room a regular part of their forum visit.

Since some forum members visit daily, this can have a huge impact on the success of the Chat.

If you are willing to make visiting a Chat Room part of your regular forum visit, please indicate on this thread.

Please indicate roughly how often you visit the site, and how much you can offer to show up.

All of this is non-binding. We just want to get a count.

If you prefer to PM me this info, that is fine also.

Thanks,

Jon

I'm on the forum pretty much every day, more likely to swing by the chat on the weekends when I can give better attention, but am planning to. I'll drop in if I see someone in there when I'm on the boards, and generally breeze in now and again - should be able to do at least a couple a week. Hope to see you guys and girls there...

I'm on the forum just about everyday unless I merely forget to. I can't really say for sure when I'm on each day, but seeing as I AM on everyday, I would most certainly check out the chat room during my visits. I've heard great things about these wednesday night chats, so I would be honored to attend a few.

I'm on the site every day (well, just about anyway) and would pop by the chat room in the evenings for a bit. Too hard during the day from the office. Weekends are the best time for me for any extended chats and I have attended the Weds. night chats more than a few times. Always enjoyed it too.

I'd certainly put effort into dropping in when browsing around here too.

I would open up the chat window and just keep it on all day and nobody would drop in *grumble*, though I had 2 good chats before.

Well I go on here pretty much every day, and it's pretty easy to leave a chat window open while I'm at it. At the least I would say I can go on five days a week.
You go outside and practice screaming. We'll play music while you're gone.

Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread.

It is great to see your support.

I put the chat back into the toolbar today.

I also moved the "who is chatting" list to the top of the forum. Hopefully, that plus your efforts will produce a lively chat for our site.

Have fun.

Jon

Looking forward to seeing you all there (provided that my stupid internet service decides to play nice...). I think I'll try to be in there tomorrow night for a while. :D
