Voted for z0s0. Sounded pretty good, although the backing track was kind of questionable. I thought the tone was really good though.

My vote goes to z0s0_jp.
Sweet tone and cool licks in his take.
Someday I`ll play like in my dreams.

Not one to buck a trend! I also went for Zoso. I liked the tone and the 'aggressive' way the track was approached - it fit it nicely.

Equator - I also liked that take, smooth playing and nice restrained use of the slide. Good 'un.

Fingerspasm - great tone and some good licks.

Well done lads!
Can you play "Far Far Away?"

Yes - how far would you like?

Thanks guys....it has that "wasted on Wild Turkey" vibe to it :D
I voted for Wriggler...like the slide and some licks were extremely tasty.

Zoso's was the most pleasing to listen to.. All of them were flawed in some way to my ear..not that I am perfect either.. which is why I want to join in on this "jam session" thing. Then you can all criticise and laugh at my poor playing.. :p

I used to have a program, called CoolEditPro, years ago that was really easy to use... and then the designers broke the usability by making it "better" and "easier" to use.. pffft.. So I was wondering if there is a cheap or free program that you all use to record with.. I was thinking of plugging my active-pickup'ed guitar into a multi-effects box, then from there directly to the microphone jack on the front of my computer.

Will that be a bad idea for some reason? would like to know in case I wreck something.. :) hehe. Then there's the solo backing track.. I need a program that will allow me to basically place the mp3 backing track into a timeline and then hit play/record and record my soloing as I am listening to the mp3 on the timeline. Synching it all up later can be a messy process...

I bought a big-to-small adapter today because it's the cheaper option (about $5 US) so that will have to do till I can justify the cost of the StealthPlug or similar product. I understand the sound quality will suffer as I am plugging directly into a microphone port but it will have to do for now.

You might be surprised with the sound quality, depending on the quality of the built in effects. That's what I did until I could afford the good stuff.

Got my StealthPlug today.. still trying to work out all the VST stuff but getting there now.. I managed to get Tracktion working with the Amplitube plugin mode, so that's a good start. And I managed to get the backing track mp3 file into it as well.. so now it's just a matter of working out how to sequence it all together I guess...

I find those to be good if you have nothing already, but now I think the effects built-in to FL studio are better so I use them.

I had a look.. not sure why I would want to use those other VST things you linked to. Tracktion, Amplitube and SampleTank all come with heaps of plugins.. are the ones you linked to better somehow? I'm new to digital recording, so I don't really know.

I've finally found a decent tone to play on my August solo.. I like how you can play on to 2 different tracks at once, and have two completely different tones for each track, and then pull the volume back on the distorting track so you can hear the true sound of the guitar more with a distorted background effect..

I haven't really fiddled around with the settings much.. just using the presets at the moment.. it's all a little bit overwhelming to be honest.. it's bad enough having a single multi-effects processor, let alone 30 or more of them all integrated into a single application.

It also comes with some strange EQ thing for mixing the master track.. I'll have to look at that later though.
