Tuning can be hard at first. I remember struggling too in the beginning. The most important thing is to be able to have a reference pitch. If you have a piano or keyboard at home, then you can use it to get the right pitch (the note in tune if you prefer) to tune your guitar. The idea is to get at least one string in tune, then you can tune all the others. I know that it's not easy at first but once your ear is used to tuning it's quite easy.
I remember that I had trouble at first knowing if I was in tune, then my uncle gave me a tip. He told me to look for the wave sound while tuning. I didn't get it at first but after a while I understood. You see, when a string is out of tune and you play it against a correct pitch, you can hear a wave like sound. The key to tuning correctly is to not hear that wave at all. That means that both pitch are exactly the same. In other words, they are in tune. You can also feel that wave thru the guitar body. With time you'll even be able to feel that wave thru the guitar. That's why you'll sometime see someone tuning his/her guitar while pressing their ear on the body of the guitar. Altho they might not be able to hear the sound (being in crowd or noisy place), they can feel the wave.
Naturally an electronic tuner is easier but not everyone can afford one.

I never use any cleaning product. Just a clean cloth with very little water (on the cloth, not on the guitar lol).
